As a child I was very close to Lyons International Club-Mexico City helping poor areas in the city. In 1996, when I was 15 years old, I became queen for the Lyons Club where I had the opportunity to represent children and teen agers of the club. There, some other teenagers and I organized events, to gather money and donate it to nursing homes. We constantly visited orphans and donated clothes. That same year, I traveled to Peru representing Lyons Club Mexico City to attend the Spring Festival in Trujillo city, where the funds were donated to local tribes. Today, I am constantly gathering clothes with friends and neighbors to make donations to local asylums and day cares in Mexico City. In 2008, while studying abroad in Scotland I participated in the "Host Family Program" at University of Stirling, where I was assigned to elder Scottish families to get together to offer and receive help to/from them. I was assigned to two elder ladies who I'm still in touch with, Betty and Sheila.I have always been interested in helping people, and now that I am not working at the moment, I find myself in the perfect time to keep helping.
While at Virginia Tech, I interned with the YMCA. I was in charge of regularly posting on and updating their Facebook and Twitter pages. I also used social media to market YMCA events, as well as connect with local businesses to form a sponsorship base. At a previous internship at an alternative health trade association, I started their Facebook and Twitter social media sites, as well as created new Projectss related to alternative health and medicine. Finally, I participated in a service learning study abroad program in Cape Town, South Africa, tutoring children during their Holiday. This experience inspired me to go into international development and I would love to learn more about this subject through your organization.
